RUNNING TO KEEP DISC RUNNING - Volunteers running to raise cash for DISC!!

posted 24 Apr 2017, 10:43 by Caroline Mackenzie   [ updated 24 Apr 2017, 12:53 ]

DISC is a community sports club and is run on a shoestring by a small committee of volunteers.  Sessions, equipment and coaches are funded by local grants and fundraising done by wonderful organisations and individuals who nominate us for their donations.

Last year, we were very lucky to have donations from Silson AC ( a local running club based in Silverstone) and Roger Clarke (chair of South Northants Council) and held several quiz nights at the Eastcote Arms. Our running costs are about£4-5000 a year and subscriptions cover less than half of this figure, so we fundraise to cover the difference to keep our subs low.

This year, two of our volunteers have chosen to run for DISC in May 2017- you may recognise them from our sports sessions!!

On May 1st, Caroline will run the Milton Keynes Marathon (26.2 miles) and on May 7th, Steve will run "Wings for Life" near Cambridge where he will run against a car driven by David Coultard! The idea is to run until the car catches you!!! It sounds crazy... but Steve is hoping to run over 20 miles before the car catches him!!

They are both very proud to be wearing DISC shirts and would love your support on Gofundme - which is the club equivalent of Justgiving...please support us at:

THANKYOU!!!

Last weekend's sports session was very popular, with families enjoying badminton, table tennis, trampoline, curling and more dancing with Sh'bam Jenny in the Studio.

Ever thought of trying out the gym?
We also have 3 spaces for members over 11 accompanied by a carer/support in the Gym - just have a word with the instructor on duty for assistance with the equipment

If you have any suggestions for sports/sports activities that you would like to see at DISC, please come and chat to us at a session, message us through website enquiries or drop us a note on the Facebook page.

Another busy afternoon at DISC sports and a warm welcome to our new members and their families. We had 21 families join us this week!

Trampolining was as popular as ever - and we are still looking for a replacement for coach Hannah.  Chris and Keir kept everyone busy on the badminton court and there was some serious point scoring in boccia!

Our new Sh'bam dance session with Jenny was busy with members and their families busting a few dance moves...and working up quite a sweat!!

January 2017 - A busy start to the year!!

The year started with a really busy session in the pool with the Giant Inflatable, letting off a bit of energy after the Xmas holidays! We had 19 families and welcomed 5 new families to DISC.

The first sports session, the following week, with trampolining and softball was also lively.
Softball is a new sport to DISC- it's very like rounders- and proved popular with parents and kids, learning catching, hitting and playing a quick fun game using the bases. A huge thank you to our local Softball team " Towcester Tigers" for coming in and running the session!

Our Volunteer Chris also brought his Badminton Coaching Certificate to show us. Well done Chris!

An afternoon at DISC is all about trying new sports, families playing together, friendships and achievements! :-)
